Toy Soldier Collector
Retired Baptist Minister, Avid Toy Soldier Collector and expert in war history
Jeff Lowe has been a toy soldier collector since his boyhood in the 1960s. His collection consists on a wide range of different wars, battles and prestigious toy manufacturers. This exhibit consists of displays on large tables of different American battles starting with the culminating and most important battle of the American revolution: Yorktown. The final minutes of the Alamo, the battle of Chancellorsville which is considered General Robert E. Lee’s tactical masterpiece of the Civil War and finally the Normandy invasion of the allies in D- Day of World War II.
There will be also a display of British soldiers in ceremonial uniforms on parade. These ceremonial figures were produced by the William Britain company, which began manufacturing toy soldiers in England in 1893. Figures from a French company, CBG Mignot, are also included in the collection. CBG Mignot has produced toy soldiers since 1825. Other manufacturers represented in the various displays include Marx, King and Country, and Tim Mee Toys.
Jeff retired from forty years of ministry as a Baptist minister in July 2020, after serving as Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Riverdale for more than twenty-four years. He now lives in Greenville, GA, and is a member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, the LaGrange Optimist Club, and Union Lodge No. 28, Free and Accepted Masons of Georgia, also in LaGrange. Jeff enjoys playing tennis and hiking, but his greatest joy is playing with his granddaughter, who lives in Duluth.
